Black History Month Resources

If you have a student looking for biographical information on famous African Americans and books aren't available in your location for the person the student is looking for, you can direct them to the list of databases we have under the African American Studies page. There are biographical databases available students can use search for the individual they are doing their research project on. You will find the link to the African American Studies databases in the research page of the HPL website. The direct link to the page is here

New Digital Service: Hoopla

The message below was sent from Marianne Lorio.

Hello:

It has been brought to my attention that word about our new digital media service, hoopla, is not reaching everyone. I want to make sure everyone is aware that we are now offering streaming and downloadable movies, TV shows, music and audiobook through hoopla. Keep in mind that our selection is limited by what the studios will offer so it is limited to older movies and mainly nonfiction TV shows. However, the music studios are excited by this new service and, except for Sony, are offering their entire catalogs including current Billboard hits. You have to sign up using your library card (no pin number is required) and are allowed 4 check outs per month. We wish it could be more, but the library is charged per check out and we want to be sure we don’t run out of money. Check out periods for videos are 72 hours, music is 7 days and audiobook is 21 days. Once you check out a title you can stream it or download it on your computer or using the hoopla app for Apple or Android devices. There are FAQs on the Staff Training Portal. If you have any more questions please feel free to contact me.

Sincerely,

Marianne Lorio
